Betty MacDonald's husband Donald Chauncey MacDonald was born Sept. 2, 1910, in Council Bluffs, Iowa 100 years ago. He died in 1975 at the age of only 65 in Monterey.
I'm working on a story about Donald Chauncey MacDonald with many facts, information and photos for Betty MacDonald Newsletter.
In Wolfgang Hampel's wonderful Betty MacDonald interviews Betty MacDonald's beloved sister Alison Bard Burnett and many other relatives and friends tell the most interesting memories of Donald Chauncey MacDonald. I hope these interviews will be published soon.
Wolfgang Hampel's new Betty MacDonald documentary of Betty MacDonald's life in Boulder, Butte, Seattle, Laurelhurst, Chimacum, Vashon Island, Carmel and Carmel Valley is really fascinating. My personal favourites are scenes of Betty's and Don's life in Carmel and Carmel Valley.

Monica Sone is the author of Nisei Daughter. Monica Sone and her family had run a hotel in Seattle before Executive Order 9066 sent all West Coast Japanese Americans into exile.

With charm, humor, and deep understanding, a Japanese American woman tells how it was to grow up on Seattle's waterfront in the 1930s and to be subjected to "relocation" dring World War II. Along with some 120,000 other persons of Japanese ancestry-77,000 of whom were U.S. citizens-she and her family were uprooted from their home and imprisoned in a camp. In this book, first published in 1953, she provides a unique personal account of these experiences.

I was rereading your book Nisei Daughter and I have to tell you that I agree with your many international fans. I wished I could read many more books written by great author and unique personality Monica Sone.

When I'm reading your great book ( Nisei Daughter belong to the VERY few books I'm reading over and over again ) I'm really deeply touched. I'm with you and your great family. I adore your outstanding book and even much more I adore your unique personality. You are a genius but very human and warm with a deep understanding and a golden heart.
The first time I heard your very warm voice I was lost. To me it's the most beautiful voice in the whole world. Voice and personality fit together in just a perfect way.
2010 was a very successful year for Monica Sone and Betty MacDonald Fan Club.
Linde Lund and her Betty MacDonald Fan Club Event Team organized the Monica Sone and Betty MacDonald Fan Club Royal Wedding Event in Stockholm with many Monica Sone and Betty MacDonald fans from five continents.
They saw the swedish royal wedding of Crown Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling.
Victoria is the eldest child of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, and belongs to the Royal House of Bernadotte. Born as a Princess of Sweden, she was designated Crown Princess in 1979 ahead of her younger brother.
Monica Sone and Betty MacDonald Fan Club sent a wedding present, books written by unique Monica Sone, Betty MacDonald and some Betty MacDonald Interviews by me, Wolfgang Hampel.
When I heard it I was very amazed. What do you think about this, dear Monica?

My aunt fell off the chair! It's not a joke. Auntie was ok but I agree laughter can be dangerous.

Yes, as it happens I do have some experience of chickens. When I was a girl, my father kept hens. And I actually wrote a book about keeping hens, FOX FIRE, and the different attitudes of two children to hens and foxes. We kept the hens at the bottom of the garden in a well protected, as we thought, hen run but one morning, we found them all dead. The foxes had got them. My Dad redoubled his efforts after this and the hen run eventually became so secure, it was all anyone could do to get in it to feed them!
The hens we had were a bit confrontational, I'm sorry to say, for when we went to get the eggs, we had to be careful as they would peck your hands. There were times though, when it was nice to go in and sometimes be allowed to stroke some feathers.
I'll draw a veil over the killing process when the hens were ready for the pot. I always made myself scarce at that point. However, my Mum taught me how to do everything from skinning and preparing a rabbit through gutting and cleaning a fish to plucking a chicken
and cleaning it ready for the pot. All I have to say to all of these activities is Yuk.

My aunt fell off the chair! It's not a joke. Auntie was ok but I agree laughter can be dangerous.

Yes, as it happens I do have some experience of chickens. When I was a girl, my father kept hens. And I actually wrote a book about keeping hens, FOX FIRE, and the different attitudes of two children to hens and foxes. We kept the hens at the bottom of the garden in a well protected, as we thought, hen run but one morning, we found them all dead. The foxes had got them. My Dad redoubled his efforts after this and the hen run eventually became so secure, it was all anyone could do to get in it to feed them!
The hens we had were a bit confrontational, I'm sorry to say, for when we went to get the eggs, we had to be careful as they would peck your hands. There were times though, when it was nice to go in and sometimes be allowed to stroke some feathers.
I'll draw a veil over the killing process when the hens were ready for the pot. I always made myself scarce at that point. However, my Mum taught me how to do everything from skinning and preparing a rabbit through gutting and cleaning a fish to plucking a chicken
and cleaning it ready for the pot. All I have to say to all of these activities is Yuk.

I'm working on a story about Owning Chickens for Betty MacDonald Fan Club Newsletter.

Sandrine darling, you are right. A serious warning! Don't ever listen to Wolfgang Hampel's Betty MacDonald Interviews in public places. I did it in a bus. I felt off my sit because I couldn't stop laughing about this crazy couple. Wolfgang Hampel and Alison Bard Burnett share their witty experiences with family and friends but also about owning chickens. Terribly funny!
This new Betty MacDonald CD and DVD influenced me to write a Betty MacDonald Fan Club Newsletter story about owning chickens. I agree with humor champion Alison Bard Burnett. She got it! When you feel blue you only have to listen to Wolfgang Hampel and Alison Bard Burnett. Don't do it in a childish way like I did. By the way I did hurt myself.
I don't agree with Geoff Taylor's description about owning chickens.
Hens make a soothing clucking noise?
Oh No!!!! They don't. I know it from practice.
They wake you up early in the morning. I'm a longsleeper. I hate their noise. It's just awful.
Everyone should have a dozen chickens?.
Everyone? What is the reason why? I never liked chickens.
They’re far more soothing to the jangled city psyche than colorful fish swimming in a tank on a bookshelf?
Oh dear, Geoff, stop it, please! This is kind of a very romantic feeling. I'm sure Betty MacDonald would hate it and I agree. A back to the country feeling.
I'm a city girl and love my wonderful cat named Eartha Kit, who is as beautiful as Eartha, the singer. Wild Eartha is a city girl too and of course we celebrated World Cat Day together.

I felt off my sit because I couldn't stop laughing about this crazy couple. Wolfgang Hampel and Alison Bard Burnett share their witty experiences with family and friends but also about owning chickens. Terribly funny!
This new Betty MacDonald CD and DVD influenced me to write a Betty MacDonald Fan Club Newsletter story about owning chickens. I agree with humor champion Alison Bard Burnett. She got it! When you feel blue you only have to listen to Wolfgang Hampel and Alison Bard Burnett. Don't do it in a childish way like I did. By the way I did hurt myself.

Hens make a soothing clucking noise?
Oh No!!!! They don't. I know it from practice.
They wake you up early in the morning. I'm a longsleeper. I hate their noise. It's just awful.
